How it works

  1. Install Bergo

    On the Windows PC you want to back up, and sign in with your Winku account.

  2. Setup assistant

    It asks what you have in mind, connects your account, shows how to install the station and tests each target.

  3. First backup

    Starts right away – after that Bergo backs up changes on its own, plus one check run a day.

What’s new in 0.1.19

Improved: Readability in setup, storage analysis and overview.

  • Folder names in setup are shown in full; long paths are shortened, the full path appears on hover.
  • In storage analysis, path and reason are shown on separate lines and no longer cut off.
  • Times on the overview stay on one line.

System requirements

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) for the program – a version for Macs with Apple silicon is on its way
  • Station: NAS, Raspberry Pi (64-bit) or server with Docker – or another PC, a network folder or a USB drive as the target
  • Bergo app (coming soon): Android 10 or later, iOS/iPadOS 17.4 or later

    What changed

    New: Help & feedback right inside Bergo.

    • Report a bug, send feedback or contact support – in the settings under “Help & feedback” and in the tray menu. Your message comes straight to us, and the Bergo version and system are included automatically.
    • When reporting a bug, you can include the log. You can view exactly what will be sent first – credentials, email addresses and your user name in paths are already removed.
    • After sending, you get a ticket number and can open the ticket. You'll find all your requests under “My requests” on winku.de.
    • If winku.de can't be reached right now, you can send your request in the browser.
    • Includes all improvements from 0.1.16.

    What changed

    Bergo stays connected when bergo.winku.de has a hiccup.

    • Account connection: If bergo.winku.de turns Bergo down once (for example during a short outage), Bergo no longer disconnects the device right away. Only if the service keeps refusing for at least 10 minutes is the device treated as removed. Until then, the overview says the service is refusing and asks you to check your account.
    • Includes all improvements from 0.1.15.

  1. Do my files go through winku.de?

    No. Backups travel inside your home network directly from device to device. winku.de (opens in a new tab) only knows your devices, their addresses on your home network and short reports without file names.

  2. Do I need a station?

    No. Bergo also backs up to a network folder, another PC or a USB drive. The station adds phone uploads and archiving on your NAS.

  3. Can I open the backup without Bergo?

    Yes. The current state is stored as ordinary folders, with the safety net and older versions next to it by date.

  4. Does the app back up when I’m away?

    No, on purpose. The Bergo app only uploads over your home Wi-Fi, directly to your station or PC – never over mobile data, a VPN or the internet.

  5. Is one Bergo backup enough?

    For everyday use, yes; for what really matters, no: keep a second copy in another place and check now and then that everything can be restored.
